Akane Shadowreed – Bloodreed Ronin

Akane Shadowreed – Bloodreed Ronin

The Reed That Waits

Build #4 in Series | Level 155 | Samurai | Occult Affinity |
High-Arcane Bleed / Iaijutsu Stance-Hold Fantasy

Status: Ready to Publish

Build Summary

RL 155. Samurai start. 80 Arcane. The build holds a stance until the blade glows red, then dumps a three-hit combo that procs blood loss and deletes health bars. Five damage multipliers stack on a single button press. It’s ridiculous.

Stats

Character Overview

Level 155 Starting Class Samurai

Attribute Spread

VIG MND END STR DEX INT FAI ARC
55 20 30 14 18 9 8 80

Derived Stats

Poise 58 Clears 51 breakpoint. Light hits won’t stagger.
Equip Load ~58.9 / 99.4 Medium roll
HP ~15,180 at 55 VIG
FP ~75 at 20 MND — enough for 8 Overhead Stance casts
Stamina ~120 at 30 END. Tight. More on that later.

Arcane 80 is the hard cap for bleed buildup and Occult scaling. STR and DEX sit at minimum weapon requirements because every point beyond that is a point stolen from Arcane. Mind 20 because Overhead Stance costs FP and you need casts for boss phases. Endurance 30 is the weakest stat here — stamina is tight and you’ll feel it during long combo strings. Greenburst Crystal Tear exists specifically to patch this hole.

Equipment

Main Hand

Great Katana +25 (Occult, Overhead Stance)

AR ~703–707 at 14/18/80 Weight 10.5
Bleed Buildup ~108 Scaling E STR / E DEX / B ARC
Skill Overhead Stance — Hold L2, release R1 or R2

Large katana with a long, heavy blade. A weapon unique to warriors of the Land of Reeds. Designed for aggression, this armament requires the wielder to throw their entire body into swinging it. The slashing attacks of its honed edge incite blood loss.

Overhead Stance is the default skill. Hold L2 and the katana lifts into a ready position. After about one second, the blade glows red — that’s Rellana’s Cameo telling you the 45% damage buff is live. From the stance: R1 is a single overhead slash (Motion Value 130). R2 is a three-hit descending combo (Motion Values 77+83+93 = 253 total). This is the nuke. Higher damage, more bleed per cast, more stance damage. Both are valid.

Off Hand

Wakizashi (Occult, Parry)

Scaling E/E/B with Occult whetblade
Guard Boost 18 Weight 1.1
Skill Parry — Black Whetblade required for Occult affinity

The Wakizashi can equip Parry with Occult affinity if you use the Black Whetblade. The whetblade overrides Parry’s default Standard affinity. I verified this in-game after Fextralife’s page said Standard only. Guard Boost 18 means late parries cost less stamina than other daggers. One-hand the katana when you need to parry. Otherwise two-hand and forget it’s there.

Armor Set

Slot Piece Poise Weight Notes
Helm Rakshasa Helm 9 5.5 Dropped by Rakshasa
Chest Rakshasa Armor (Altered) 27 12.8 +2% damage dealt/taken baked in
Gauntlets Rakshasa Gauntlets 6 4.3
Greaves Rakshasa Greaves 16 7.9
Total 58 30.5 Clears 51 breakpoint

Armor of Rakshasa, soaked in the spurting blood of her victims. Tatters of ragged cloth jut out haphazardly, as if her lust for carnage threatens to break free. Each piece boosts all damage dealt and taken by 2%. Full set is +8% dealt, +8% taken. Already baked into the displayed stats — what you see is what you get. The +8% damage taken means you’re more fragile than the poise number suggests — don’t get comfortable trading hits.

Talismans

1. Rellana’s Cameo

Effect: 45% damage boost after holding a stance for approximately 1 second. Weight 1.2.

This is the build. The red glow when you hold Overhead Stance is this talisman activating. When you see red, release. 45% is a massive number for a single talisman slot — patched down from 1.5 seconds to ~1 second hold time.

Source: Dropped by Rellana at Castle Ensis

2. Shard of Alexander

Effect: +15% Ash of War damage. Weight 1.5.

Overhead Stance is a skill. This talisman boosts it. Stacks with Rellana’s Cameo — both multipliers apply to the same R1/R2 release.

Source: Iron Fist Alexander, Crumbling Farum Azula. Complete his questline.

3. Lord of Blood’s Exultation

Effect: +20% attack power for 20 seconds when blood loss occurs nearby. Weight 0.9. (12% in PvP.)

The R2 three-hit combo procs bleed. The moment it does, this fires. Nerfed in patch 1.09 but still 20% in PvE.

Source: Esgar, Priest of Blood, Leyndell Catacombs. Not Mohgwyn. Not Varré’s questline. Esgar.

4. Rotten Winged Sword Insignia

Effect: Successive attack boost: 6% / 8% / 13% across three tiers. Weight 1.4.

Uses a hidden point system called AccumuVal. Tier triggers at 17 / 30 / 45 / 60 accumulated points. Decay window is 1.5 seconds. If the fight stalls and you stop hitting, the stacks reset.

Source: Millicent’s questline. Assist her at the end.

Flask of Wondrous Physick

1. Opaline Hardtear

Effect: +15% all damage negation for 3 minutes.

Duration: 180 seconds

Source: Putrid Avatar, Minor Erdtree in Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow (Caelid, north of Fort Faroth)

2. Greenburst Crystal Tear

Effect: +15% stamina recovery for 3 minutes.

Duration: 180 seconds

Source: Putrid Avatar at Minor Erdtree in Caelid, east of Smoldering Church

Consumables

  • Kukri: Bleed-building throwaway. Toss one before entering the stance and the R2 hits a target that’s already partially bled.
  • Rot Pots: Stack rot on the approach, hold the stance while it ticks, release the nuke. Dual status pressure.

Playstyle Notes

Two-hand the Great Katana. Hold L2 until the blade glows red. Release R2. Watch the health bar disappear. That’s the core. The rest is knowing when to hold and when to roll.

Core Mechanics

  • Against passive enemies: Walk in, hold the stance, release.
  • Against aggressive bosses: Roll and reposition until a window opens — then hold, glow, release.
  • R2 is primary: More damage, more bleed, more stance damage. R1 is the backup.
  • Wakizashi: Comes out for parry situations. Crucible Knights, specific boss phases.
  • Albinauric Bow: Softens distant targets. Weak damage. Lets you approach on your terms.

What Works

  • Five damage multipliers stacking on a single Overhead Stance release (Cameo 45% + Shard 15% + Rakshasa 8% + LoBE 20% + RWSI up to 13%)
  • R2 three-hit combo procs bleed, which fires Lord of Blood’s Exultation mid-combo
  • Red glow from Rellana’s Cameo is a clear visual timing cue
  • 58 poise absorbs light hits during the stance hold
  • Kukri pre-bleed makes the R2 nuke proc faster

What Hurts

  • END 30 stamina is tight. Full R2 combo plus dodge strings can drain you.
  • Rakshasa +8% damage taken is baked in. You’re more fragile than the poise suggests.
  • Overhead Stance R2 has a commitment window. If the boss moves during the animation, you whiff all three hits.
  • RWSI decays in 1.5 seconds. If the fight stalls, the escalation resets.
  • No buffs, no utility spells, no emergency heals. Pure melee bleed.

Combat Loop

  1. Open: Kukri or bow to soften and build partial bleed
  2. Close: Roll to reposition against aggressive bosses
  3. Hold: L2, Overhead Stance, wait for the red glow (~1 second)
  4. Release: R2 for the three-hit nuke, or R1 if the window is tight
  5. Proc: Bleed fires, Lord of Blood’s Exultation activates (+20% for 20 seconds)
  6. Follow: R1 chains or a second stance hold while buffs are live
  7. Reset: If RWSI stacks decay, rebuild with rapid R1s before the next hold
  8. Repeat: Wait for the next window

Hidden Synergies Explained

The Escalation Stack

Five damage multipliers hit the same button press. They stack multiplicatively, not additively: Rellana’s Cameo (45%), Shard of Alexander (15%), Rakshasa Set (+8%), Lord of Blood’s Exultation (20%), and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia (up to 13%). The first R2 hit with all five active is strong. The third hit — with RWSI fully escalated — is dramatically stronger. And the bleed proc from hit two or three fires LoBE, which amplifies whatever follows.

Greenburst + Stamina Economy

120 stamina at END 30. R2 costs stamina across three hits. Without Greenburst, you can struggle to dodge out after a full release. With it, the loop doesn’t stall. This tear doesn’t add damage — it keeps the engine running.

Lore & Narrative

In the Land of Reeds

In the Land of Reeds, the tall stalks bend with the wind but never break. They taught Akane patience. They taught her that true strength hides in stillness.

“The reed bends… then cuts.”

Born to a minor samurai house wiped out in the Shattering’s pointless wars, she became a wandering ronin — “the Reed That Waits.” When she stepped into the Realm of Shadow, the Great Katana drank deeply from her. A crimson curse flooded her veins. Instead of resisting, Akane embraced it.

Now she walks both the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow carrying the blood-soaked Rakshasa armor, the elegant Albinauric Bow for patient preparation, the traditional wakizashi at her side, and Rellana’s Cameo that makes her stance burn red with power. Wild creatures — wolves and hawks alike — are drawn to her curse like reeds in the wind.

The Rakshasa armor was not chosen. It was earned. The woman who wore it before — if she was still a woman by the end — left it soaked in blood that was not entirely her own. Akane took it from the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum, where the dead rest in silence and the water runs red. The armor fits. That should tell you something.

The Great Katana is a weapon unique to warriors of the Land of Reeds. Designed for aggression — the wielder throws their entire body into the swing. Akane does not swing wild. She holds. She waits. The blade drinks from her, and when it glows red, it has drunk enough. Then she releases, and the cutting is not a swing. It is a sentence.

Rellana’s Cameo hangs at her chest — a portrait of a knight who left her homeland to serve another. The talisman enhances attacks held in stillness. Devotion written in blood. Service rewarded with power. Akane holds the stance the way Rellana held her oaths — past reason, past comfort, past the point where stopping would have been the saner choice.

Where to Find Each Item

  5. Albinauric Bow: Albinauric wolfback archers, Consecrated Snowfield. Farm near Ordina.
  6. Rakshasa Set: Rakshasa boss, Eastern Nameless Mausoleum. Shadow Keep → ladder to teleport coffin → Ruins of Unte → cliffs downstream → drop to bottom.

Questline Connection

Two NPC questlines feed this build.

Millicent

Gives you the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia. Her questline spans most of the game — Gowry, the Unalloyed Gold Needle, Commander O’Neil, the scarlet Aeonia. At the end, you choose: assist her or invade her. Assist her. Fight her sisters. The talisman drops. The description references the valkyries who serve the goddess of rot — Malenia’s flock. Millicent was one of them, born in the swamp of Aeonia. Akane carries a piece of that legacy.

Iron Fist Alexander

Gives you the Shard of Alexander. His journey goes from Limgrave to Crumbling Farum Azula. You help him out of holes, you fight him at Redmane Castle, and finally you duel him at the end of the world. The shard strengthens skills. A warrior’s echo.

Esgar — the source of Lord of Blood’s Exultation — is not part of a questline. He’s just a boss in Leyndell Catacombs. Kill him, the talisman drops. No fanfare.

Rellana and Rakshasa are both DLC acquisitions. Rellana at Castle Ensis for the Cameo. Rakshasa at the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum. These two stops define Akane’s journey through the Realm of Shadow.

Build Philosophy

Why Patience? Why Blood?

Patience is the mechanical core. Hold L2 until the red glow, release for maximum damage. The build rewards timing over button mashing. It’s also the character’s identity — the Land of Reeds ronin tradition, iaijutsu, the art of the controlled draw. True strength hides in stillness.

Blood is the curse made mechanical. Every wound feeds the cycle. Bleed procs Lord of Blood’s Exultation, attack power rises, the next hit cuts deeper. The Rakshasa armor is soaked in blood that isn’t entirely hers. The Great Katana’s edge incites blood loss. The Kukri opener builds bleed before she commits. She embraced the curse instead of resisting it.

The Rakshasa lore says it plainly: “Cut down and devour. Only those who repeat the cycle without rest can truly subvert the self and become Rakshasa.”

“The reed bends… then cuts.”

She does not swing wild. She does not chase. She waits, and the blood builds, and the blade glows red, and when the moment comes — she releases. That is the curse. That is the patience. That is the only thing the Land of Reeds taught her that she still carries.
